19. Research in progress with Michał Piotr Gostyński
In this podcast episode, I interview Michał Piotr Gostyński, who is a teacher of Polish at the University of Ankara in Turkey, and PhD researcher, about his ongoing research project that will compare more traditional language instruction with drama-based language teaching.
Michał gives us a very open and honest glimpse into his research in progress and we talk about:
- his research design for a mixed methods study that will collect language learner data over two consecutive academic years, which will be assessed by a group of native-language raters for fluency, comprehensibility and accent once data collection is finished
- how he chose assessment formats and questions, for example first person narration or third person narration
- surprising developments in research – for example how it affected learner motivation in the control group – and allowing the unexpected to happen
- how, as a passionate teacher, he hopes to give young people tools to find their best way in language learning and beyond
